You've done every diet and weight loss strategy known to man. All of them come to an end in just a few weeks and you're left feeling discouraged, confused and pretty pissed off. You may possess a strong understanding of what you should be eating. But, it's not enough to change what you see in the mirror. It's time to stop experimenting with random diets and finally hire a nutrition coach, someone that will finally show you how to not only achieve your health goals, but to permanently take back control of your life.
Your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and even your pastor may share with you some great nutrition tips. But, the truth is every human being is different and the way of eating that worked for them may not work for you. We are seeing that more now than ever before.
Did you know: Only 5% of individuals that achieve a significant amount of weight loss keep that weight off for longer than 10 years?! Keto, Paleo, Whole 30, Intermittent Fasting, Gluten Free, Dairy Free; whatever you are into, for every success, there is a failure. Individuals need precise prescriptions that not only fit their goals, but their genetic/medical history AND lifestyle habits. Following some random template cannot provide you with this. Rather than trying yet another diet alone, why not hire a nutrition coach to provide you with the information, tools, and accountability you need to finally meet your nutrition and training goals?
What is a Nutrition Coach?
A nutrition coach, sometimes called a “health coach”, is a nutritionist, counselor, consultant, mentor and motivator all in one. The National Consortium for Credentialing Health & Wellness Coaches defines health coaches as: “professionals from diverse backgrounds and education who work with individuals and groups in a client-centered process to facilitate and empower the client to achieve self-determined goals related to health and wellness. Successful coaching takes place when coaches apply clearly defined knowledge and skills so the clients mobilize internal strengths and external resources for sustainable change”.
Nutrition or "Health" Coaches empower the individual(s) to take responsibility over their own health. Even though someone's diet may be a coaches biggest tool to use to get them towards their optimal results, non-dietary protocols may be used as well such as sleep & stress management, exercise regimens and more.
Why work with a Nutrition Coach?
The scale is one pound higher than yesterday. Now what?
I have to work late this week and can no longer workout at 5:00 p.m. How do I adjust my food?
My best friend is having a birthday party this weekend. What do I do?
Very rarely will you have a "perfect" day/week/month. Frequently, you will be faced with sudden changes that will cause a dent in your gameplan. A Nutrition Coach takes this stress off of you and allows you to use your energy more efficiently on what is really important.
Hiring a Nutrition Coach also forces COMMITMENT. Let's face facts, it's easier to quit when things get tough than it is to keep moving forward. When you failed in the past, at least you had an excuse. If you fail this time, it's on you! First off, there is a financial commitment to hiring a nutrition or health coach. Secondly, there is a higher sense of accountability due to the fact that most possess the natural instinct not to want to let others down. When you don't do a workout, when you don't hit your macros, when you go on a binger, you have to explain to your coach why you did what you did. That is just not fun!
Every once in a while, we need a new outlook and by hiring a nutrition coach, you receive a third party-non biased perspective on things. It is incredibly rare when someone can achieve long term success on their own. Even the greatest coaches outsource their own protocols. Ultimately, this provides a greater level of accountability and success. In the world today, we are surrounded by nutrition and health tips that belong in the trash. Nutrition Coaches work for you and work with your best interest in mind. They will help decipher out nutrition fact from nutrition fiction which will help establish a strong and educational foundation that you can use for the rest of your life.
Whether your goals are aesthetic, performance or overall health based; your daily caloric and macronutrient prescription varies. There are appropriate times each year to "diet" aka enter a weight loss phase and there are appropriate times to be at maintenance as well as be in a surplus. You cannot fuel yourself the same way year round and aspect to achieve or maintain every single goal. Different goals require different prescriptions.
A good coach is invaluable. He or she can provide you with the information, tools, and confidence you need to be successful now, and in the long run. But if you don’t execute and ask questions, your success, or lack thereof, is on you. Make sure you have a clearly defined goal and know the “why” behind working towards your goal(s). And then, milk the time you’ve paid for a coach for all it’s worth and set yourself up for many years of success!
